Welcome from the Governing Body

Welcome to the Governors’ section of the West Borough Primary School website. On behalf of the Governing Body, I am delighted that you have taken the time to find out more about our school and our proud, values-driven community.

At West Borough, our vision is to instil a respect for others and a fascination with the world around us. We nurture life skills within a creative environment, empowering every child to learn, take responsibility and develop the confidence and independence they need for the future.

As governors, we are deeply committed to helping every child at West Borough succeed. We champion the school’s values and support the welcoming, ambitious and inclusive culture that makes our school such a special place.

Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, the Governing Body helps to set and maintain the strategic direction of the school. Our key responsibilities include ensuring that:

• The school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction are clear and ambitious.
• School leaders are held to account for the educational performance, progress and wellbeing of all pupils.
• The school’s financial resources are used effectively and responsibly to provide the best possible education for our children.

Governors act as both supporters and challengers, providing constructive scrutiny and serving as a critical friend to the Headteacher and leadership team. We do this by attending governing body and committee meetings, considering information about pupils’ achievement and progress, monitoring the school’s priorities, visiting the school and asking appropriate questions about the impact of the decisions being made.

Above all, our focus is on ensuring that every child at West Borough has the opportunity to thrive, academically, socially and personally. We are proud of our school and of the children, families and staff who make up our community.

Together, we are committed to ensuring that West Borough continues to be a happy, safe and ambitious school where every child is valued, challenged and supported to achieve their very best.
